Veteran Health and Wellness Foundation

elewismd@myvhwf.org

Overview

When it comes to eyecare, US Veterans are an often-missed population. For those who qualify for VA health care benefits, the VA will cover some or all of vision care. However, the majority of Veterans do not go to VA hospitals for eyecare and many are not being diagnosed properly.

This educational activity aims to inform eyecare practitioners how to identify Veterans patients and provide care.  iVista Medical Education is partnering with the Veterans Health And Wellness Foundation on this activity.  For more information about the Veterans Health And Wellness Foundation, visit their website at https://myvhwf.org/.

Target Audience

The target audience is comprehensive ophthalmologists, retina specialists, retina fellows, residents and students, optometrists, ophthalmic techs, nurses and other eyecare healthcare providers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify patients who are Veterans
  • Screen for eye conditions prevalent among Veterans
  • Manage Veterans with eye disease using the appropriate screening tools and technology for retina diseases
  • Discuss treatment options for neovascular age related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR)
  • Diagnose and treat dry eye syndrome in Veterans
